Please get in touch with me to see if this mentoring class is suitable.

I will ask you to provide some examples of your work (pre and post edit), so I can get a feel for whether we can work together.

Private Mentoring

Think of this as a three to five month workshop

“Learning happens when you have time to digest the lessons”

I have found you learn better if you have time to go away and digest what we discussed during our sessions together. This is why I offer a six session mentoring program which is spread out over several months.

Each session is recorded in high-definition, so you can recall what we discussed. I recommend meeting no more frequently than every two weeks. You can schedule according to your diary. But I would also suggest not to spread out sessions too far apart, so we can gain some momentum when working together.

It’s all about working with tonal relationships

It is my strong belief that by teaching you how to work with tones and their relationships in the editing stage, your ability to ‘see’ and interpret your compositions whilst out in the field will improve. This may feel back to front to you as most assume they need to improve their fieldwork first, and editing second. Not so. Improvements are made by studying your images, and you learn how to ‘see’ through the editing interpretation.

If you are interested in working with me,

I offer the following package:

  • 6 x 1-hour sessions, spread out over many months

  • 4 x 1-hour pre-recorded lessons as a primer before we meet

  • Each session is recorded in HD for you to keep and review

  • I provide you homework at the end of each session

  • Before each session you send me your edits to review

  • I provide a HD recording of our session with further advice and homework

I can work on any kind of images, not just landscape

My teaching principles can be applied to any kind of photography. I have worked with students on portraiture, architecture, motor sports, as well as landscape.

I encourage you to submit unique work

I’m much more interested in helping you find your own vision. It’s also more inspiring and interesting for me to work on images that are not of the same places I have photographed.

I work with all styles of imagery

I work with portraiture, architecture, etc, not just landscapes. I encourage you to send me work that is not like my own.

I only offer a package, because I’m interested in your long-term personal development

Improvement comes by having a roadmap, which is what this package class aims to achieve. I do not do ad-hoc 1-hour sessions, as I believe they are of little value on their own, in the long run.

Commitment and time limit

You need to be committed and willing to work together and complete your package within six months. We need to meet regularly - preferably every two weeks (work commitments aside). Sessions cannot be saved or carried beyond six months unless we mutually agree or work commitments dictate otherwise.

You'll need about two weeks between each session

It's best if we can meet regularly. I think a two week gap between sessions is perfect, as it will give you time to go and work on any homework I set.

Once we start working together, I would prefer if we can use the sessions up within a couple of months.

What You'll Need

• Photoshop already installled
• For each session, a list of qustions that you've collected since our last meeting.
• Photoshop PSD Image Files already looked out and ready to work on. Layers should be unflattened.
• Original RAW files for reference.

Photoshop\* Experience Recommended

This workshop has a focus on image interpretation techniques in the digital darkroom. It is expected that you are reasonably familiar (but not an expert) of Photoshop \*. Having some knowledge of Layers / Curves and Masks would be helpful. Photoshop Elements and Lightroom are not suitable for this course.

Please Note: The focus of this workshop is to teach you image interpretation skills to realise the best prints possible. The focus is not on teaching you Photoshop CS\*, although you may pick up some new skills while on the course.
