Lençois Nocturne
The vastness of Lençois Maranhenses dune complex is one thing. But walking here at night with a head torch takes this place into the realms of the surreal.
Distances that are hard to judge during the day become unfathomable at night time. Small lagoons take on the persona of large bodies of water, vast lakes that will take many hours to circumnavigate. Or so it seems. Because at night, every sense of the body is heightened. My eyes tell me there must be something there when all I can see is darkness.
Walking through the dunes is a wildly exciting prospect because one cannot tell where the edge of a dune ends, and where the sudden drop down to the waters edge begins.
